Value, Simplicity…Clarity

I recently had a delightful conversation with an executive whom I’ve never met. She bought copies of The Clarity Papers for her entire Board and leadership team and just completed a two-day offsite during which they used many of my techniques and frames from the book.

I wish I had recorded her comments. I didn’t, of course, but I can share what I remember. I hope her comments give you some great ideas and inspire you to embrace the power of clarity. So here we go, in no particular order:

“Your techniques and frames are so accessible and so simple, but also so powerful. I can’t believe what we have achieved in just a few days.”

“Your opening Venn diagram identifying the three dimensions of clarity: purpose, process, and roles, allows us to tackle each dimension separately and we really are creating greater clarity. ‘Clarity’ is our new watchword.”

“Your distinction between Treadmill Verbs and Destination Verbs is amazing. I’m a big proponent of agendas, but I looked back at many of mine and discovered they are loaded with Treadmill Verbs. Now we are calling each other out every time someone uses a Treadmill Verb. It’s changing the way we talk. We are getting to the point faster and getting more done.”

“We are also SOARing through Decisions. The first step is surprisingly hard, but once we do it and then step through the other steps with discipline, decisions that we have avoided or have been talking around are suddenly much easier and finished!”

“Before starting a meeting, we now ask what needs to be different before we are done. If we don’t know, we cancel the meeting. I’ve canceled four meetings in just a couple days. With this alone, I’m sure we will all save many hours a week.”

“One of the great things about your book is that you don’t have to read the whole thing to benefit. I go to the Table of Contents, find the relevant topic, read about three and a half pages, and I’ve got immediately useful ideas. It is so accessible, so logical, so simple. So clear!”

That’s pretty amazing value for the price of 15 books, wouldn’t you say?

I hope this helps you chart a course to the astounding benefits of clarity. It really is this simple to get started. And, of course, my new friend here is only beginning to tap those benefits. I hope she sticks with it and continues to recognize greater and greater boosts to productivity, performance, and empowerment.

If your organization is big and/or complex, or you aren’t sure how to get started, give me a call: 603-784-5727. I guarantee you won’t regret it. Clarity really is the missing link to better results, faster, and with greater commitment from all involved.
