Nothing Ventured, Nothing Gained

Try something new. It could change your life. Seriously. And for the better.

My husband and I tried a new kind of vacation in September – new for us, anyway. We hiked across Provence. It was FABULOUS and has changed the way we think about vacations. (And that’s not all.)

The scenery was beautiful and varied – from rugged, spectacular mountains to the deep, cool Verdon Gorge to endless lavender fields, vineyards, and orchards. Great beauty and great variety.

Walking out of town alone on an unknown trail in an unknown land headed toward an unknown destination without the ability to calibrate the challenge presented by the 10 -12 miles of mountains ahead of us provided an anxiety-tinged thrill.

Descending from the solitude of a gorgeous, remote mountain hike into an impossibly cute village generated a grin stretching glee. Consuming French food and wine that never failed to please and often seemed divine made the day melt luxuriously into the sunset.

We smiled and smiled.

We tipped our hats repeatedly to our numerous summer hikes that set us up for pain-free days. To our luck with the weather and almost continuous blue skies. To the company, Distant Journeys, that planned a great route, picked wonderful towns, and booked us into the best rooms in the coolest hotels in each little town, and, last but not least, hired Pascal and Sebastien, who transferred our luggage each day and occasionally transported us to and from towns and trailheads. Could it have been better? I don’t think so.

Try something new! We did and are so thankful.

If you are interested or curious, you can see pictures and more from this great trip on the Uncommon Clarity Facebook page. “Like” my page to be updated as my posts appear. And if you decide to talk with Distant Journeys about your next adventure, definitely tell them we are still grinning!

Enjoy your October! I think it’s my favorite month.
