Bad News for Executives

Executives: Listen up! Many of your best employees are out interviewing. How do I know this? Because lots of them contact me before they take that step.

They read my newsletter or hear me speak and see that I could help. They are tired of banging their heads against the lack of clarity, communication, commitment, and progress. Without the authority to hire me themselves, they can only make suggestions to receptive ears, share my newsletter, or try to introduce me to someone who can make a difference. Since they are unwilling to risk their jobs, they rarely blurt out the truth. When they’ve had enough, they move on.

It kills me to hear to their stories because I’ve been there, can feel their pain, and know I can help.

But I can’t. You’ve heard the saying, “You can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make it drink.” Truth be told, you can’t even lead a horse to water if it isn’t thirsty, is determined to stand still, and can’t hear the plaintive cry of hard-working, frustrated talent.

Do you know how your best employees feel about their jobs and the leadership you and your team provide? Are you certain they aren’t out looking for new jobs? Do you have the courage to find out, admit mistakes, take action to mend short-comings, and create an environment that allows your top talent to excel? I hope so, because your best will only wait so long.
